Genus and species: Portulaca oleracea.
Variety denomination: ‘NUFPO24119’.
BACKGROUND OF THE NEW PLANT
The present invention comprises a new and distinct variety of Portulaca , botanically known as Portulaca oleracea . and hereinafter referred to by the variety name ‘NUFPO24119’. ‘NUFPO24119’ originated from a controlled cross in December 2020 at Cobbitty, Australia between the proprietary female Portulaca variety ‘PO21.15.10’ (unpatented) and the proprietary male Portulaca parent ‘PO21.15.18’ (unpatented).
Seeds from the controlled cross were obtained. The seeds were sown and plants were grown for evaluation. A single plant was selected in October 2021 and subsequently named ‘NUFPO24119’. In December 2021 ‘NUFPO24119’ was first vegetatively propagated by vegetative stem cuttings in Cobbitty, Australia. ‘NUFPO24119’ was found to reproduce true to type in successive generations of asexual propagation via stem cuttings in Cobbitty, Australia.
SUMMARY
The following are the most outstanding and distinguishing characteristics of ‘NUFPO24119’ when grown under normal horticultural practices in Cobbitty, Australia:
•
• 1. Large flowers with a magenta star with a yellow background; and • 2. Compact and spreading plant habit.
DESCRIPTION OF THE PHOTOGRAPH
This new Portulaca plant is illustrated by the accompanying photograph of a 14-week-old plant grown outdoors in Stuttgart, Germany during August 2024. The colors shown are as true as can be reasonably obtained by conventional photographic procedures. The photograph is a whole plant photo of ‘NUFPO24119’ and shows the foliage, buds, and flowers.
DESCRIPTION
The following detailed descriptions set forth the distinctive characteristics of ‘NUFPO24119’. The data which define these characteristics were collected from asexual reproductions carried out in Cobbitty, Australia from 3-month-old plants in 2022. Color references are to The R.H.S. Colour Chart of The Royal Horticultural Society of London (R.H.S.), 5 th edition (2007).
