Latin name of the genus and species: Rosa hybrid. Variety denomination: ‘CHEWGOLDRUSH’.

BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION

The new cultivar is a product of a planned breeding program by the inventor to develop new Rosa varieties with good health and tolerance to rose diseases, strong flower color, floriferousness and fragrance. The seed parent is the unpatented variety Rosa ‘Tan01366’. The pollen parent is the unpatented variety Rosa ‘Gardeners Glory’. The crossing resulting in the new cultivar was made in May 2010 at a nursery in Newport, United Kingdom. Rosa ‘CHEWGOLDRUSH’ was found and selected in the spring of 2011 in Newport, United Kingdom. The first asexual propagation of occurred in July 2012 by softwood cuttings at the same nursery, and ‘CHEWGOLDRUSH’ has been found to retain its distinctive characteristics through successive asexual propagations over multiple generations.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

The cultivar ‘CHEWGOLDRUSH’ has not been observed under all possible environmental conditions. The phenotype may vary somewhat with variations in environment such as temperature, day length, and light intensity, without, however, any variance in genotype. The following traits have been repeatedly observed and are determined to be the unique characteristics of ‘CHEWGOLDRUSH’. These characteristics in combination distinguish ‘CHEWGOLDRUSH’ as a new and distinct Rosa cultivar: 1. Bright, stable yellow flower color. 2. Free flowering. 3. Fairly quick reblooming. 4. Exceptionally healthy; very high resistance to a number of common rose diseases. 5. Dark green, glossy foliage. 6. Compact, shrub-like habit. COMPARISON TO PARENT VARIETIES ‘CHEWGOLDRUSH’ is similar in most horticultural characteristics to the seed parent. Plants of the new cultivar ‘CHEWGOLDRUSH’ however differ in the following: 1. Flower color of the new variety is medium yellow, while the flower color of the seed parent is orange fading to cream. 2. Fragrance of the new variety is citrusy and perfume-like, while the fragrance of the seed parent is aromatic. ‘CHEWGOLDRUSH’ is similar in most horticultural characteristics to the pollen parent. Plants of the new cultivar ‘CHEWGOLDRUSH’ however differ in the following: 1. Flower color of the new variety is medium yellow, while the flower color of the pollen parent is light yellow. 2. Fragrance of the new variety is stronger than the fragrance of the pollen parent. 3. Foliage of the new variety is glossy, while the foliage of the pollen parent is semi-glossy. 4. Plants of the new variety are more disease-resistant than plants of the pollen parent. 5. Plants of the new variety have fewer thorns than plants of the pollen parent. COMMERCIAL COMPARISON ‘CHEWGOLDRUSH’ can be compared to the commercial variety Rosa ‘WEKvossutono’, U.S. Plant Pat. No. 18,473. Plants of the new cultivar ‘CHEWGOLDRUSH’ are similar to plants of ‘WEKvossutono’ in most horticultural characteristics. Plants of the new cultivar ‘CHEWGOLDRUSH’, however, differ in the following: 1. Fragrance of the new variety is more intense than the fragrance of this comparator. 2. Fragrance of the new variety is citrusy and perfume-like, while the fragrance of this comparator is of mild licorice. 3. Flower color of the new variety ages to pale yellow, while the flower color of this comparator ages to pale yellow-orange. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PHOTOGRAPHS ‘CHEWGOLDRUSH’ is illustrated by the accompanying photographs, which show the plant's form, foliage, and inflorescences. The colors shown are as true as can be reasonably obtained by conventional photographic procedures. Colors in the photographs may differ slightly from the color values cited in the detailed botanical description, which accurately describe the new hybrid Rosa. is a photograph of a 1.5 year old plant of ‘CHEWGOLDRUSH’ in a 3-gallon container grown in Grand Haven, MI. is a close-up view of multiple flowers of ‘CHEWGOLDRUSH’. DETAILED BOTANICAL DESCRIPTION The following is a detailed description of the botanical characteristics of the new and distinct Rosa ‘CHEWGOLDRUSH’.
