Latin name of the genus and species of the plant claimed: Pelargoniumx interspecific.

Varietal denomination: ‘PEQZ0104’.

BACKGROUND OF THE NEW PLANT

The present invention comprises a new Pelargonium , botanically known as Pelargonium interspecific, and hereinafter referred to by the variety name ‘PEQZ0104’.

‘PEQZ0104’ is a product of a planned breeding program. The new cultivar ‘PEQZ0104’ has light rose colored inflorescences with a large vivid red spot in the middle of the floret, held above medium green foliage, on a mounding plant

‘PEQZ0104’ originates from a hybridization in a controlled breeding program made in July 2020 in a greenhouse in Gilroy, California. The female parent was a patented plant of P . x interspecific parentage identified as ‘PECZ0003’, U.S. Plant Pat. No. 23,509, with a smaller habit when compared to ‘PEQZ0104’.

The male parent of ‘PEQZ0104’ was a patented, proprietary plant of P . x interspecific parentage, identified as ‘PEQZ0017’, U.S. Plant Pat. No. 28,711, with rose-colored florets when compared to ‘PEQZ0104’. The resultant seed was sown in November 2020.

‘PEQZ0104’ was selected as one flowering plant within the progeny of the stated cross in May 2021 in a greenhouse in Gilroy, California.

The first act of asexual reproduction of ‘PEQZ0104’ was accomplished when vegetative cuttings were propagated from the initial selection in June 2021 in a greenhouse in Gilroy, California.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF INVENTION

Horticultural examination of plants grown from cuttings of the plant initiated in July 2021 in Gilroy, California and continuing thereafter, has demonstrated that the combination of characteristics as herein disclosed for ‘PEQZ0104’ are firmly fixed and are retained through successive generations of asexual reproduction.

‘PEQZ0104’ has not been observed under all possible environmental conditions. The phenotype may vary significantly with variations in environment such as temperature, light intensity, and day length.

A Plant Breeder's Right for this cultivar has not yet been applied for. ‘PEQZ0104’ has not been made publicly available prior to the effective filing date of this application, notwithstanding any disclosure that may have been made less than one year prior to the effective filing date of this application by the inventor or another who obtained ‘PEQZ0104’ directly from the inventor.

The following traits have been repeatedly observed and are determined to be the basic characteristics of the new variety. The combination of these characteristics distinguishes this Pelargonium as a new and distinct variety.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PHOTOGRAPHS

The accompanying photographic drawings show typical flower and foliage characteristics of ‘PEQZ0104’ with colors being as true as possible with an illustration of this type.

The photographic drawings show in FIG. 1 , one flowering plant of the new variety and

in FIG. 2 , a close-up of an inflorescence.

DETAILED BOTANICAL DESCRIPTION

The plant descriptions and measurements were taken in Gilroy, California in early July 2023 under natural light. These plants were approximately 16 weeks old and were grown in a 20 cm pots, in a greenhouse trial. The plants shown in the photographs were about 16 weeks old growing in a 12 cm pot in a greenhouse. The photographs were taken in May 2023.

Color references are made to The Royal Horticultural Society Colour Chart (R.H.S.) of 2015.
